Local historian and author, Lee Krueger, will lead a walking tour of the Richter-Graap Sawmill site on Big Cedar Lake. The walk will take us to the shores of Big Cedar Lake then along Cedar Creek to the former dam site.
Said to be one of the first sawmills in the county, the Richter-Graap Mill began in the late 1850s as a partnership between Charles F. Richter and three Graap brothers: Frederick, Henry, and August. Following Richter’s death in 1862, the mill was operated by Henry Graap before the mill burned to the ground in 1870.
This program is free and open to the public.
Directions: From West Bend, head west on Highway 33. Turn left onto County Road Z. Head south past Paradise Drive and Cedar Community to German Village Road. Turn right onto German Village Road. Turn left onto Oak Lodge Road. Park on the shoulder and meet us at the dead end.
